Whether used for compliance with state regulations or simply to save money at the range, you might find it necessary to have magazines with capacities less than the 30-round-count standard on new AR-15-style rifles and carbines. Going with a smaller 20-. 15- or 10-round magazine is one option, but these magazines are often harder to retrieve from standard mag pouches.

Hexmag's 10- and 15-round magazines are designed with a large riser that limits capacity accordingly, yet fill the same space as a 30-round full-capacity mag. These would be a great choice for training purposes, where you might wish to practice reloads or magazine changes without burning up too much precious ammo. These magazines will fill a standard pouch so there's no tactile difference between these and 30-round magazines.

Given Hexmag's color-coded followers, it would be easy to identify your reduced-capacity magazines to keep them with your training gear. Even if you're just looking to spare some ammo during plinking time without changing the feel of your carbine, there's a use for a lower-round count mags. Hexmag also points out that paracord, fishing line and other survival-oriented items can be stored around the riser in the reduced-capacity magazines.

MSRP: $14.99. Available in black, flat dark earth and foliage green.
