Nighthawk Custom, the makers of “The World’s Finest 1911’s” have taken the Colt 1911 Classic model and given it an overhaul.

“Custom gunsmithing the 1911 is the foundation of our company. In a sense, this project allowed us to go back to our roots,” said Mark Stone, owner and CEO of Nighthawk Custom. “To take such a classic pistol and add the Nighthawk Custom touch, allows us to offer a fine-tuned 1911 that looks like the model your dad or grandpa carried in the service. We’re thrilled with how this pistol turned out.”

“The idea for this project actually came from our Custom Gunsmithing Shop,” said Nelson Davis, COO of Nighthawk Custom. “In our custom shop, we bring in customer guns of all kinds for all types of work; everything from a simple refinish, to a complete rebuild with all new parts. Recently, we were shipping a retro-looking Colt back to a customer and we thought ‘That is beautiful! Let’s build one that people can readily buy.’ From there, our expert gunsmiths went to the drawing board for how to improve upon a classic.”

An all-new trigger system has been installed in the Colt Series 70 1911 that offers a match-grade, solid short trigger, fully machined disconnector, sear, hammer strut and pin. The rear sight of the pistol has been replaced with a fully machined retro sight, while the front sight is swapped out for a Nighthawk Custom 14k gold bead front sight. The pistols are also outfitted with a retro hammer, Nighthawk Custom beavertail grip safety, mainspring housing and match barrel bushing. Other upgrades include an ultra hi-cut trigger guard, matching vertical serrations on the front strap and mainspring housing, French border on the slide and Nighthawk Custom engraved on the dust cover, taking an already exquisite firearm to the next level.

Nighthawk Custom has upgraded the performance of the Colt Series 70 with a full reliability enhancement and action tune-up, including the polishing, tuning and adjusting of the internal components for optimal performance. As a finishing touch, the slides edges are hand-beveled and every reworked Colt Series 70 received a custom Smoked Nitride finish that makes each pistol a functional work of art.

MSRP on the Colt Series 70 by Nighthawk Custom is $2,599, and more information is available at nighthawkcustom.com.
