Ruger has launched a professional shooting team for the first time in its nearly 70-year history. Leading the storied firm’s competitors is newly signed world champion shooter Doug Koenig, with additional teammates to be announced in the coming weeks.

“We are very excited to introduce Team Ruger, and particularly with a shooter of Doug Koenig’s caliber at the helm,” said Chris Killoy, Ruger president and CEO. “Doug is an outstanding addition to the Ruger team, bringing both a winning attitude and a true passion for growing the shooting and outdoor sports to the team.”

Koenig began shooting competitively at the age of 17, winning a variety of regional and national championships. He turned pro in 1990 and promptly claimed his first major victory by shooting a 1920-157X at the NRA Bianchi Cup. He’s shot a perfect score of 1920 an unprecedented 16 more times at the prestigious competition, accumulating a total of 18 of the championship titles along the way. After nearly 31 years testing his skills against some of the best at the firing line, his wins include more than 70 national and 10 world titles. Most recently, he's been a professional shooter and brand ambassador for Smith & Wesson.

“I am thrilled to join Team Ruger and partner with such an iconic brand in our industry,” Koenig said. “Ruger’s depth and breadth of products is a perfect fit for both my competitive shooting and hunting endeavors.”

Ruger also announced it is now the presenting sponsor of “Doug Koenig’s Championship Season,” which features a gritty combination of fast-paced shooting competition and wild hunting adventure anchored by its new team captain. The show airs three times a week on the Pursuit Channel.

In addition to serving as Team Ruger’s captain, Koenig will represent the company as an official Brand Ambassador, appearing at a variety of events to highlight and showcase the firm’s products.
