The 5.7x28 mm is a small-caliber, high-velocity, smokeless powder, rebated rim, bottlenecked centerfire cartridge originally designed for a handgun and the personal-defense weapon manufactured by FN. It is similar in length to the .22 WMR. Introduced in 1991 to some fanfare, it has mostly languished, finding little to no popularity in the United States. This was partly because of a lack for firearms chambered for it and partly because of limited availability of ammunition.
