Skepticism was high when Kimber released its K6S revolver just four years ago in January 2016. What was a high-end 1911 manufacturer doing playing in the wheelgun world? About the only thing they had in common was that both are considered a bit of a throwback in a modern world of high-capacity, polymer striker-fired guns.

Even so, Kimber has continued to thrive and the K6S has continued to impress. And this year, Kimber is expanding the K6S line by introducing new models that aren’t just new clothes on an old model.

The original K6S models were double-action-only, well-suited to concealed carry. They are compact, 6-round revolvers that can shoot .357 Mag. and .38 Spl. calibers, and come in a number of different styles all optimized for defensive use in different settings.

Starting this year, nearly those same guns are now available with exposed hammers so that they can also be cocked and shot in single action as part of the new DASA series. They have the same double-action triggers in the 9.5 to 11.5 pound range as the standard K6S revolvers, but also have single-action trigger presses in the 3.25 to 4.25 pound range.

There are both 2-inch and 3-inch stainless DASA variants (MSRP $970 for either), similar to the standard K6S revolver, plus a beautifully engraved “Texas” special edition DASA K6S with custom ivory-colored G10 grips (MSRP $1,359).

Light single-action triggers are often preferred for making difficult shots, so it’s unsurprising that Kimber has also created “Target” versions of the DASA with a longer, 4-inch barrel that increases the sight radius for easier aiming (MSRP $989 for either). The 4-inch Combat version includes an extended grip with finger grooves and 3-dot sights, while the standard 4-inch K6S DASA deletes the finger grooves and adds an adjustable rear sight.
