Flash hiders are one of the most-common muzzle devices seen on today's AR-style rifles, and there are an incredible number of aftermarket options for owners looking to enhance the look or performance of their guns. However, one of the features commonly shared between most multi-pronged flash hiders on the market is their tendency to ring like a tuning fork while firing or after a bolt closes. This caused irritation among many AR owners, so RISE Armament developed a solution in the form of its Veil Flash Hider.

“When we were designing the flash hider, our first priority was, of course, making sure it performed well. Then we wanted to take it up another level,” said Matt Torres, president of RISE Armament. “We made it look good, but that wasn’t enough. Our test groups mentioned they didn’t like the sound other high-performing flash hiders make, so we engineered that out.”

Initially, the RISE Armament Veil Flash Hider was an exclusive addition to the company's law-enforcement-focused line of Watchman rifles, but enough consumers requested the flash hider as a standalone component that the company now offers it as an accessory. Each Veil Flash Hider is machined from 416 stainless steel and is treated with a matte, black-nitride finish. A crush washer is also included with each flash hider for installation.

Of course, the principal design of the Veil is to mitigate muzzle flash, particularly in low-light environments. This is a critical feature needed by professionals and consumers alike who depend on ARs for personal defense. Muzzle flash can temporarily blind shooters in low-light defensive scenarios, leading to dangerous situations where situational awareness and the ability to fire fast follow-up shots can be lost. The Veil minimizes this impact, ensuring that users have the awareness they need to effectively use their rifles in darkness.

Each RISE Armament Veil Flash Hider is designed for use on 5.56 NATO/.223 Rem. AR-15s, and the streamlined design of the muzzle device measures 2.25 inches long and weighs just 2 ounces. The Veil will be available to consumers starting on March 1, 2019, and the suggested retail price is $69.
