CZ-USA is now offering its CZ Bren 2 Ms carbines and large format pistols to the United States market. CZ Bren 2 Ms carbines and large format pistols come with different barrel lengths and are chambered for 5.56 NATO and 7.62x39mm. Currently, the full-size 16 inch CZ Bren 2 Ms carbine is only available in 5.56 NATO. The large format pistol versions have barrel lengths ranging from 8 to 14 inches.
The civilian legal semi-automatic CZ Bren 2 Ms series are inspired by the original Czech military CZ 805 Bren design and use a modern short-stroke adjustable piston driven semi-automatic action. The guns are built from lightweight materials, including high impact resistant polymers and aluminum receivers. Unlike the older Bren 805 design, which was designed in accordance with the specific requirements of the Czech armed forces, the newer Bren 2 Ms kept its ancestor’s inspiration but was ultimately designed free from external requiremens. The result was a new series of firearms that got rid of excess weight and also replaced the original Bren 805 charging handle with an NRCH (non-reciprocating charging handle) design that latches down and stays put. Both 5.56 NATO Bren 2 Ms carbines and large format pistols feed off of standard AR-15 pattern .223 Remi. / 5.56 NATO magazines. All 7.62x39mm Bren 2 Ms firearms use a CZ factory specific magazine that accommodates the tapering of the 7.62x39mm cartridge and also includes last round bolt hold open functionality, something not found on the classic Kalashnikov pattern magazine.
As modern short-stroke piston gas operated firearms, the CZ Bren 2 Ms design has its recoil spring contained inside of the receiver so there’s no need for a buffer tube or spring. Large format pistols ship with a flush fitting endcap, but they can be configured to connect to an AR-15 pattern carbine receiver extension or other arm braces and cheek rests. Alternatively, those who are willing to go the SBR route can install the CZ factory Bren folding stock.
