Equipping a defensive AR-15 with a light is an essential part of setting up a total-systems solution, along with an optic and sling, per many of today's top instructors. When it comes to outfitting a rifle with a dedicated light, the SureFire lineup of Scout Lights has long been a go-to for professionals in military and law-enforcement organizations, with many close- to mid-range lights perfect for lighting up indoors. However, for larger spaces and extended distances, the all-new SureFire M600 Ultra Scout Light provides enhanced capabilities.

Thanks to a duty-ready, high-output LED, the M600 Ultra produces 1,000 lumens on a single-setting output that dumps all the power possible into lighting up larger areas. The light incorporates the company's unique, proprietary TIR lens that spreads the light into a wide beam that provides peripheral awareness to the user, ensuring that there's no dark corner in any nearby spot that could possibly hide a threat.

The rugged aluminum body features a hard-anodized finish that protects the unit in a range of scenarios, and every gap in the light body is sealed with O-rings, ensuring that the unit can guard against the elements and keep functioning in the harshest environments on Earth. The lens is even made using tempered glass, so it's built to last. The light is powered by two CR123A batteries, and with the only output being the light's high-output, 1,000-lumen beam, battery life measures 1.25 hours.

Users can attach the SureFire M600 Ultra light to any standard Picatinny accessory rail using the included M75 attachment, which locks down with a knurled thumbscrew. Momentary and constant-on operation can be selected through the Z68 tailcap switch, and the unit is compatible with the company's pressure-pad systems that also attach to the tail end of the flashlight. The M600 can be had in either black or tan anodized finishes and retails at a suggested price of $299.
