Texas Governor Offers No-Cost Concealed-Carry License Replacement

Damage estimates in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey are among the highest in recent memory, and for residents impacted by the storm, some of their prized possessions won’t be covered by insurance, particularly those “priceless” family heirlooms that disappeared when the tides rose. That kind of loss can’t possibly be measured, and then there are those small fees that will show up and no doubt add up as they slowly put the pieces of their lives back together.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and his staff recognize that fact, and at a time when the ability to defend yourself is particularly critical, has directed the state’s Department of Public Safety to issue no-cost License to Carry replacements for those residents in counties impacted by the catastrophic storm. It’s a $25 savings, but it comes at a time when law abiding citizens are coming to grips with the fact they’ve not only lost more than they thought possible, but that the fees and deductibles are only going to continue to grow—long after the media has turned its attention to the next crisis du jour.

“As Texas begins the recovery process, we are prepared to respond to a wide range of issues to help victims of this Hurricane,” Gov. Abbott said. “By eliminating burdensome fees to replace these important licenses, Texans can focus on rebuilding their lives and communities.”
