New for 2017, Smith & Wesson announced the launch of the company's next-generation model of the striker-fired M&P pistol: the M&P M2.0.

“When we launched the first M&P polymer pistols over 10 years ago, they were a game changer for the company," said James Debney, president and CEO of American Outdoor Brands Corporation. "Since that time, we have clearly established M&P as a leading firearm brand and built an incredibly strong family of products around it, including the market leading M&P Shield pistols. Now, with a decade of experience under our belts, we are very excited and proud to reveal our next generation M&P pistol–the M&P M2.0."

A few notable improvements include an extended stainless-steel chassis and an improved grip-to-bore-axis ratio designed to limit muzzle rise and allow shooters to recover their aim quicker. The gun also features an 18-degree grip angle and four interchangeable grips to allow owners to better customize the fit to their hand. The grips have also been improved with an enhanced texture to provide better control.

The company also claims that the M&P M2.0 features a lighter, crisper trigger pull with a tactile, audible trigger reset. Other improvements on controls include an ambidextrous slide stop, reversible magazine release and an optional ambidextrous thumb safety. The gun also features a takedown lever for easy disassembly, along with a sear-deactivation lever that allows owners to disassemble the gun without pulling the trigger.

The guns feature an Armornite hardened-nitride finish on the barrel and slide, along with an optional flat dark earth Cerakote finish. The guns are available in 9 mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP with barrel twist rates of 1:10 for 9 mm and .40 S&W and 1:15 for .45 ACP.

The suggested retail price of the new S&W M&P M2.0 is $599.
