Sometimes It Ain't What You Think

I spent Christmas and New Years in the hills about an hour's drive northeast of San Francisco, CA. Yep, it's that same evil, anti-gun part of the country we're always hearing about on the news. But, I've got some news for you; it's not what you think.

First of all, it was clear a lot of the neighbors got guns or shooting gear for Christmas. Each day after the 25th, we heard gunfire, as folks tried out their new acquisitions on the private ranges that dot this rural countryside. Also, our nearest neighbor is also a Gunsite graduate.

On my frequent visits to California, we always run up to the Yolo County Sportsman's Club, near Davis, to shoot some skeet. Besides the nice shooting facility, YCSC is run by some mighty friendly people. In fact, it's a whole lot like visiting any of the gun clubs in Texas, Arizona, Wyoming or anywhere else that gun people gather.

So I guess my whole point is to just shine a bit of the spotlight on all of the shooting sportsmen and sportswomen who happen to live in California. They don't get nearly the attention that they deserve, and some people forget that these Californians are damn sure part of our family, too.

If I was really smart, I would know how to help them defeat the anti-gun crowd in their state. Well, I don't have the answer to that, but I can extend the hand of fellowship to the gun folks of California.  And you should, too.
