In production for more than 50 years, the Ruger 10/22 is one of the nation's most-popular rimfire rifles, and the company continues to roll out new models that appeal to different segments of the shooting community. One of Ruger's latest additions to the lineup is the 10/22 Compact equipped with a unique Modular Stock System.

One of seven branches in the 10/22 family, the Compact product line was initially filled out with several distributor exclusives featuring a short length-of-pull sized right for small-statured firearm enthusiasts. However, with the launch of Ruger's Modular Stock System, the Compact is now the perfect training rifle that can be adjusted as young shooters grow in size.

Compared to the Ruger 10/22 Tactical, which is outfitted with the same barrel length, the modular stock on the 10/22 Compact is 2.25 inches shorter, featuring a 12.5-inch length-of-pull that brings smaller users closer to the trigger and provides them with a comfortable fit as they train. A reduced comb height also ensures that shooters can easily place themselves behind the iron sights on the rifle. When young shooters are ready to move up to the next size, separate modules that adjust length-of-pull and comb height can be ordered from Ruger.

Each Ruger 10/22 Compact is outfitted with many of the same features that made the rifle popular over the last half-century. Built on an alloy-steel receiver, the rifle is equipped with a 16.12-inch, six-groove barrel featuring a 1:16-inch right-hand twist rate. The sights on the rifle are built with fiber-optic inserts that provide a high-visibility aiming point, and the rear sight leaf is adjustable for windage and elevation. The Modular Stock system is molded from synthetic materials and features textured surfaces on the fore-end and grip. Each rifle is equipped with a 10-round rotary magazine and weighs 4.6 pounds.

The suggested retail price on the Ruger 10/22 Compact Modular Stock System is $309.
