First Look: SureFire X400U Weaponlight

For fans of SureFire weaponlights, the company launched an all-new model in the form of its new X400U, designed as both a weaponlight and laser. This offers shooters an opportunity to enhance their onboard lighting and sighting system, with both red and green laser options available.

Of course, the principal feature of the SureFire X400U is the light itself, built with the company's tried-and-true Total Internal Reflection lens. This produces a far-reaching beam that both extends far out enough to identify targets at a distance, as well as offering an expanded beam that lights up a user's peripheral vision. As a total illumination package, the unit ensures that enough light is directed in a forward-facing beam for immediate target engagement while still allowing for enough awareness at the periphery of a sight picture to transition if other threats are detected.

Building on the target-focused design of the SureFire X400U is a 5mW red or green laser, which can be easily zeroed and, thanks to the unit's trademarked Nylock rail-locking adjustment screws, can hold zero reliably through extended strings of fire and under harsh recoil. At the rear of the X400U, users will find an ambidextrous toggle that offers single-finger control of the light-and-laser combo, providing either momentary or constant-on operation. SureFire also offers pistol-grip switches and tape-style switches for long guns, should consumers prefer those activation options.

The SureFire X400U is built with a durable aluminum housing, which is treated with a hard-anodized, all-black finish. Each unit is constructed with a recoil-proof LED bulb and is protected against the elements with waterproof O-ring and gasket seals. The light's mount fits all Universal and Picatinny accessory rails, and the heavy-duty LED provides 1,000 lumens of output powered by two 123A batteries. Measuring 3.6 inches long and 1.47 inches wide, the X400U weighs in at 4.9 ounces with the batteries installed.

Both holster-compatible and non-holsterable models of the SureFire X400U are available, as well as red and green laser options. The suggested retail price on the weaponlight starts at $599.
