McMillan Fiberglass Stocks is an industry leader in precision-driven custom fiberglass stocks. Now they have developed the new  Z-1 stock, designed to fit most Remington-type actions and work with most barrel contours, with no factory or user modifications.

This innovative new precision fiberglass stock is the first of the new Z-Series universal-fit stocks. The stock is inletted to accommodate nearly all barreled actions that share the same action diameter and guard screw spacing of that of the Remington 700. This universal fit approach makes it easier for you to quickly upgrade your rifle by eliminating the factory wait times for custom fiberglass stocks.

Shooters who are already familiar with McMillan's long-range precision fiberglass stocks will recognize the familiar McMillan elements in the Z-1 stock, which combines ideas taken from McMillan's popular A6, A10 and A5 tactical stocks. The Z-1 barrel channel accommodates nearly any barrel contour and the factory inletting is ready to accept most factory barreled actions with no additional work required. No ejection port relief is needed, thanks to the low stock line, and the oversized bolt notch accommodates all sizes of bolt heads.

The new Z-1 stock is built specifically to help shooters in long-range tactical shooting and competition. The squared fore-end provides a positive mating surface when using a bipod, along with maximum stability when using a field rest. The other end of the stock has a dual-purpose butt hook to provide a sturdy rear support on a shooting bag along with a grip for the non-firing hand. The firing hand grip is vertically oriented for optimal trigger-finger geometry, and a thumb shelf placed above the grip and behind the action tang offers thumb support to reduce fatigue when waiting for the shot. At the top of the grip is a finger stop that allows the trigger finger to rest in exact alignment with the trigger.

The stock can be further tailored to a shooter’s requirements with an integral cheek piece that is adjustable for a custom cheek weld and proper eye alignment. Length-of-pull is also customizable thanks to an adjustable recoil pad.

MSRP for the new Z-1 stock starts at $700, and more information is available at mcmillanusa.com.

MIM Myths

Metal-injection molding (MIM) creates complex, durable and reliable metal parts in things we use daily. Its ability to churn out high volumes at reduced cost endeared it to the firearm industry decades ago. Despite that fact, gun companies we asked about the process were tight lipped.
