Barrett Rifles for Norway

The Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency (NDMA) has entered into a contract with Barrett Firearms Manufacturing to upgrade the Barrett Model 82A1s fielded by its precision shooters in 1999 to the more advanced M107A1. “We are honored to continue our partnership with the Norwegian Armed Forces by providing the M107A1, a rifle that embodies our dedication to precision, reliability, and innovation,” said Barrett CEO Bryan James. “This move ensures that the Norwegian forces are equipped with the latest advancements in long-range firepower.”

The M107A1 rifle, chambered in .50 BMG, is a substantial upgrade from the Model 82A1. It offers reduced weight, improved performance, greater durability and other upgrades tailored to meet the evolving demands of modern warfare. The M107A1 is also optimized for suppressor use, adding a critical feature for reducing the rifle’s signature in operational environments.

The contract highlights the NDMA's confidence in Barrett’s ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions that meet the rigorous demands of military use. The M107A1 will significantly enhance the Norwegian Armed Forces’ capabilities to engage targets at extreme ranges and secure tactical advantages on the battlefield.

“Barrett is proud to partner with allied nations across the world,” James said. “We all share the same dedication to excellence and continued improvement. Barrett has a long history in this field and we will continue to grow our relationships with our partners.”

Barrett is a world leader in long-range, large-caliber, precision rifle design and manufacturing. Its products are used by civilians, sport shooters, law enforcement agencies, the U.S. military and more than 80 U.S. Department of State approved countries around the world.

Australian defense contractor NOIA purchased Barrett in January 2023. All management and staff at the company’s Murfreesboro, TN, manufacturing facility were retained after the transaction, and production remains in the United States.
