This standard velocity .45 ACP load is all that remains of what was once, in my opinion, one of the best ever .45-caliber options for personal protection. Remington used to offer this same 185-grain JHP bullet in a +P load pushed to 1,100 fps. This sub-1,000 fps load out-penetrates the old +P load, but wound cavities are much less pronounced. Still, this is an easy-to-shoot alternative and it would not be a bad choice for aluminum-framed 1911s or other lightweight pistols.
