Federal's Premium Personal Defense line of ammunition is loaded with Hydra-Shok bullets, and this particular load is marketed as Low Recoil. Federal achieves the low recoil by using a light-for-caliber bullet. Optimum penetration is maintained by pushing this bullet relatively fast. This 135-grain .40 S&W load has a muzzle velocity of more than 1,200 fps from a Glock 22. Penetration, at 11 inches, is what I consider ideal. It should make a great personal-protection load.
