A recently circulated notice from Rossi warns of an issue in line of .38 Spl. and .357 Mag. revolvers, manufactured between the years of 2005 and 2017. Covering models R351, R352, R461, R462, R851, R971 and R972, with serial numbers beginning with the letter Y, Z or A through K, the safety warning details that the revolvers suffer from a condition that could cause them to fire when dropped.

These revolver models represent a large segment of Rossi’s wheelgun lineup, from the R350 series of 2-inch five shooters, to the 4-inch 851 and 971 six-shooters, to the big, 6-inch 972. If any of those sound even remotely like the gun in your collection, it would be best to take a look just to be safe, particularly if you are unsure of when they were purchased.

Anyone owning such a revolver should cease using it immediately and go to WWW.ROSSISAFETYNOTICE.COM, where one can enter a serial number to return a list of instructions on the pistol’s specific defect. If you happen to be the prior owner of one of the above firearms, and sold it to someone you still have a way of contacting, please make sure to get in touch with them to ensure they are informed of the problem.

Rossi reinforced its commitment to solving these issues with swift action, citing the company's 120 years of service as evidence of its dedication to consumers. In fact, according to a statement in the aforementioned notice, steps are already being taken to rectify the problem: Rossi is developing inspection and repair solutions. Rossi will make every effort possible to ensure Rossi revolvers will be inspected, serviced if necessary, and returned to customers in a prompt, timely fashion.”
