Designed for daily carry use, the all-new Ruger SR1911 Officer-style 1911 chambered in .45 ACP is one of the most-compact models in the company's SR1911 lineup. This new option provides consumers with a purpose-built carry gun sized right to fit inside the waistband without printing.
Unlike Ruger's other Officer-sized guns, the all-new SR1911 Officer-style gun is built with a frame, slide and barrel trio machined from stainless steel. When compared to the company's aluminum-framed Officer-style SR1911, the all-steel model weighs 3.8 ounces more when empty. However, the added weight works to soften the felt recoil of the gun, which is chambered in the big-bore .45 ACP, a step up in caliber from the company's 9 mm Lightweight Officer-Style gun.
Another added benefit of the all-steel design is increased durability, thanks to the ability of an all-steel gun to withstand the repeated stresses of firing better than similar aluminum-framed models. Much of the additional weight in the steel-framed SR1911 is found at the muzzle, thanks to a bushing-free barrel-and-slide arrangement and a full-length guide rod. This puts more weight at the front end of the gun, further dampening recoil and allowing users to get and stay on-target through rapid strings of fire. The barrel measures 3.6 inches in length and features six-groove rifling with a 1:16-inch rate of twist.
Other features found on the Ruger SR1911 Officer-style pistol include a dependable Series 70-style firing mechanism, complete with a skeletonized hammer and solid-titanium firing pin that provide faster lock time. The gun is equipped with a skeletonized trigger machined from aluminum with an adjustable over-travel stop and a clean-breaking, creep-free trigger pull.
On the frame, consumers will find a beavertail grip safety that protects the web of the shooter's hand from hammer bite, as well as an enhanced thumb safety and slide stop that allow for trouble-free manipulation. The mainspring housing on the frame features a rounded contour that prevents printing, and the gun is equipped with checkered grips machined from G10 fiberglass-laminate material that protects against wear and weather. Each gun is equipped with drift-adjustable Novak three-dot sights. Size-wise, the Officer-style guns measure 7.25 inches long, 5 inches high and 1.34 inches wide.
Consumers will also enjoy an enlarged ejection port and an enhanced magazine release that ensure reliable, dependable operation, and the gun is designed to be compatible with all standard 1911 aftermarket upgrades and accessories. The Ruger SR1911 Officer-style pistol ships with two stainless-steel magazines and retails at a suggested price of $979.
