First Look: Velocity Triggers Marksman Performance Choice AR-15 Trigger

In 2018, Velocity Triggers added another aftermarket AR-15 trigger upgrade to its lineup, providing consumers with the all-new Marksman Performance Choice drop-in trigger. This new design fits all standard AR-15 lowers and works to enhance trigger control on any AR rifle, ensuring that owners have the ability to get rounds on target with greater accuracy and precision.

A stand-out feature on the trigger unit is the ability of the owner to customize the placement and angle of the trigger shoe for an ideal fit with the shooter's trigger finger. Users can position the shoe up to 0.5 inch further forward to allow for quicker trigger time from a ready position, since the trigger finger has a shorter overall distance to travel before making contact. Additionally, the shoe rotates, enabling owners to custom-fit the angle at which the face of the trigger blade makes contact with the trigger finger.

A number of trigger shoes are available for use on the Marksman Performance Choice drop-in trigger platform. Three different shoe styles are available: curved, straight or straight with a built-in finger stop. Each shoe is machined from aluminum and features a face that measures 3/8-inch wide. Consumers can choose between a radiused or flat-faced trigger with serrations. Hard-anodized finishes are offered in five colors: black, red, flat dark earth, OD green and pink. Trigger options are available with pull weights measuring either 3 or 4 pounds.

The drop-in trigger is machined in-house at the company's location in Phoenix, AZ, and are cut from high-quality materials in order to provide a generous, dependable service life from each trigger unit. The hammer, trigger and trigger disconnector are all cut from tool steel and are heat-treated for added hardness and durability.

After hardening, the surfaces of the hammer and disconnector on the Velocity Triggers Marksman Performance Choice trigger are finished with a Robar NP3 coating to add lubricity to contact surfaces within the trigger unit, smoothing out the pull and providing corrosion resistance. The trigger is coated with a Diamond-Like Carbon coating to harden it and reduce friction. After this coating is applied, the hardness of the trigger surface is greater than 80 HRC, ensuring its durability.

The critical component parts of the trigger are set inside of an aluminum housing machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, which is then treated with a green hard-anodized finish to combat corrosion. Each Velocity Triggers Marksman Performance Choice trigger retails at a suggested price of $189.95, while the individual trigger shoes retail for $14.95 apiece.
