First Look: Trijicon RMR Type 2 Reflex Sight

The Trijicon RMR reflex optic has been a go-to miniature red-dot sight for firearms enthusiasts, and the company announced it had improved the design even further with the launch of the RMR Type 2.

The new Trijicon RMR Type 2 is designed specifically for use on handguns and other firearms that put extreme stress on the optic, ensuring that the design will provide users with a lifetime of solid service. The main changes in the optic include a new electronics package that is designed to better withstand tough environments. In the battery-powered models, the company incorporated improved battery contacts that will enable the Type 2 to withstand stiff recoil with ease.

Other features of the RMR Type 2 include a Button Lock-Out mode, which ensures that users won't ever accidentally adjust the brightness setting on their optic, providing them with a dependable reflex sight that is ready to go when they need it. The new sight also features a battery-conservation mode that automatically adjusts the optic's brightness setting to match the conditions surrounding the sight, thereby improving the life of the battery.

The Trijicon RMR Type 2 reflex sight is designed to provide users with the most rugged optic possible. The company's earlier RMR design proved itself in some of the harshest situations possible during use with hunters, military operators and law-enforcement officers. The new design takes that rugged build even further, featuring construction from 7075-T6 aluminum and a design that diverts impact stress away from the lens. The reflex sight weighs only 1.2 ounces.

In the LED models offered by the company, a CR2032 battery provides up to two years of service, while the adjustable-LED model can get as much as four years of life out of a battery on its mid-range setting. The dual-illuminated models, which operate free of batteries, did not receive any changes in the Type 2 line.

The new Trijicon RMR Type 2 fits the same mounting hardware as the company's original RMR. The suggested retail price on the Type 2 starts at a suggested retail price of $577.
