First Look: Ruger SP101 Match Champion Revolver

Ruger announced the launch of its new SP101 Match Champion revolver, which features a number of enhancements that are designed to bring the SP101 platform into the precision-shooting world.

The Ruger SP101 Match Champion is chambered in .357 Mag. and features a full-lug stainless-steel barrel that measures 4.2 inches long. The barrel is topped off with an 11-degree target crown that is designed to provide shooters with the best possible accuracy, making the gun ready for competition shooting. The barrel features a 1:16-inch right-hand twist with five-groove rifling.

Other features of the gun's construction include a chamfered cylinder along with specially designed Altamont hardwood grips that feature a checkered finish on the sides for improved control. The grips also feature ergonomic finger grooves that improve a shooter's control over the gun.

Other features of the revolver include a cylinder that locks into place at the front, rear and bottom of the frame in order to provide consistent and reliable positioning for every shot. The revolver also incorporates the company's patented transfer-bar system that guards against accidental discharges. Total capacity of the cylinder is five rounds.

When it comes to competition shooting, participants demand a number of features for the utmost in performance. The Ruger SP101 Match Champion delivers through the inclusion of polished springs and a polished hammer strutm as well as a clean, crisp trigger pull and trigger shims that combine to provide owners with a revolver capable of making precision shots.

To complete the package, the gun comes equipped with a completely adjustable rear sight, as well as a fiber-optic front sight that ensures shooters can quickly and accurately place rounds on target.

The revolver measures 9.12 inches in overall length and weighs in at 30 ounces. The suggested retail price on the Ruger SP101 Match Champion is $859.
