LaserMax announced the launch of its new GripSense Activation Technology in 2017, and the company began shipping CenterFire handgun laser models equipped with the company's new activation system. The first models are sized to fit Ruger LC9, LC9s and LC380 pistols and Smith & Wesson M&P Shield pistols.
"The introduction, and much anticipated shipping of this product, to the market results in a significant change in the laser aiming devices market landscape," LaserMax VP of Marketing Jay Duncan said. "The utilization and integration of GripSense technology in this product will provide consumers with options never before available in a laser-aiming or illumination tool."
The company used technology similar to that found in modern-day smartphones to develop the new GripSense laser-activation system. To turn the laser or light on, users simply have to grip their handgun for instant-on activation. The system works with and without gloves, and the lack of an activation button means that users aren't encumbered with an extra step in the activation process. The keyless activation also means that function is unimpeded when wearing gloves in colder climates.
The new CenterFire laser with GripSense activation comes with different operating modes that are completely programmable by the end user. The unit also features a quick-change battery compartment that allows users to change batteries without removing the laser from the gun, ensuring that zero is preserved.
The total battery life for the CenterFire unit is 3 hours of run time, which is preserved through the use of a auto-off feature that shuts down the unit after 10 minutes. Other features of the new unit include a dual-action system that allows users to use an included push-button for activation, if they prefer.
The CenterFire GripSense Activation unit is fully adjustable for windage and elevation and provides users with 100 lumens of mint-green light that ensures an extra level of visibility in dark conditions. LaserMax will also offer CenterFire light and laser units with GripSense activation for the Ruger LCP II, the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 45 and the Glock G42 and G43.
The suggested retail price for the LaserMax CenterFire light and laser unit with GripSense activation is $199.
