First Look: Hi-Lux Phenom 5-30X Riflescope

Built specifically for the long-range competition circuit, the new Hi-Lux Phenom 5-30x56 mm riflescope came about after the company consulted with a variety of military and competition shooters, putting together the best possible package for precision-rifle owners to mount onto their go-to PRS firearm.

The Phenom riflescope is constructed on a large 34 mm main tube, which provides an extensive amount of windage and elevation adjustment for long-range shooters looking to dial-in their target rounds with ease. The optic features a 56 mm objective lens, which according to Hi-Lux, helps to provide a higher-quality sight picture and provides a clearer view during low-light shooting at dawn or dusk.

In addition to the extensive adjustment range found on the Phenom, users will note the large locking turrets, which can be secured without the use of any tools in order to avoid unintentional ajdustments. The optic features mil radian adjustments in increments of 0.1 mils. The turrets provide 12 mils of adjustment per turn, while the windage allows for 6 mils of adjustment right or left with a full turn of the turret.

Inside the optic, shooters will find the company's mil-based CW-3 reticle, which is located in the first focal plane to allow for accurate measurements at any distance. The reticle features a full Christmas-tree-style grid that allows users to make windage and elevation adjustments on the fly without touching the optic's turrets. The grid also allows shooters to accurately track the path of the bullet downrange, giving them all of the information to put shots on target with ease. The optic is available with red or green reticle illumination, assisting shooters in seeing the reticle easily during low-light conditions.

Like most optics meeting the quality standard for the competition circuit and other high-stress applications, the Hi-Lux Phenom 5-30x56 mm riflescope features a gasket-sealed and nitrogen-purged internals that prevent lens fogging. In addition, Hi-Lux coats all of its lenses with the company's DiamondTuff14 material in order to enhance light transmission.

The overall length of the optic is 14.6 inches long, and it weighs in at 36 ounces. Eye relief measures in at 3.75 inches. On its lowest power setting, the field of view at 100 yards measures 25 feet, and at its highest power setting, the 100-yard FOV measures 4 feet. The suggested retail price on the Hi-Lux Phenom 5-30x56 mm riflescope is $840.
