The new Maximus Headlamp from SureFire is a rechargeable variable-output LED headlamp with a number of helpful new features.

First, the maximum output of the headlamp is 1,000 lumens. However, using a knurled dial on the side of the lamp allows the wearer to adjust the output from 1,000 lumens all the way down to 1 lumen. This allows users to use the lamp for close-up work, preserve their night vision or extend battery life.

On the highest setting, the Maximus, powered by a lithium-ion batter, has a total run time of one hour. The lowest setting of one lumen allows users to stretch the battery life to 70 hours. Battery life is recorded through a fuel gauge display that gives users information on how much battery life is remaining. In an emergency, the Maximus features an SOS beacon setting that can run for days at a time.

The light itself is built with a magnesium housing that features a durable black finish. The light is rated IPX4 water-resistant. The assembly itself weighs only 5.1 ounces and can be rotated up and down 90 degrees. The included headband is made from a proprietary Breathe-O-Prene material that wicks moisture. The battery can be recharged with the included wall AC outlet recharger or the 12-volt DC vehicle charger.

The SureFire Maximus Headlamp retails at a suggested price of $275.
