Leupold's new LTO Tracker is the company's first thermal imaging optic and is aimed at hunters, who can use the tool for observation, tracking and game recovery.

“We see thermal as a vital tool in any hunter’s kit, just like binoculars or laser rangefinders,” said Tim Lesser, vice president of product development for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “For observation and recovering downed game, the LTO Tracker will help hunters find success in the field.”

The Leupold Thermal Optic Tracker features a state-of-the-art thermal imaging engine that provides improved image quality, heat detection at distances up to 600 yards and 30 hertz frame rates. The optic features a 20-degree field of view and offers 6x digital zoom. The optic runs off a single CR123 battery that provides more than 10 hours of continuous use. Start up time is less than three seconds.

The Tracker includes six different thermal filters that allow hunters to select the most effective and beneficial view. Each filter includes a user-controlled reticle, allowing users to pinpoint thermal signatures. The LTO Tracker is effective in temperatures of -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and is rated IP67 waterproof.

The optic can be used by hunters walking to blinds or stands in order to avoid spooking nearby game. Varmint and feral hog hunters can use the tool as an observation device in order to better track their game, leading to improved pest control efforts. Hunters can also use the Tracker to follow an animal's heat trail in order to recover downed game.

The LTO Tracker is not intended for mounting on a firearm. Units will begin shipping in November 2016 and will retail at a suggested price of $874.99.
