In an upcoming article on building your own AR-15, one of the last considerations in the construction of the upper was the addition of a muzzle brake, flash hider or other such device. Since we didn't want to rule out adding a sound suppressor in the future, it made sense to include a dual-purpose device.

The folks at Gemtech have such a thing in the company's 5.56 Quickmount Muzzle Brake. Designed to accept all Gemtech 5.56 mm suppressors, the Quickmount Muzzle brake reduces felt recoil in addition to muzzle climb. It's a smart idea to have one device that allows faster followup shots and rapid sound suppressor attachment.

The Quickmount Muzzle Brake has Quickmount lugs for use with all 5.56 mm suppressors, a Blake Firing Adapter (BFA) groove for use with GM/GMT-HALO and training devices and an extended portion for use on shorter barrels. It has an overall length of 2.4 inches and is pre-drilled for pinning, so it will complete a build using a 14.5-inch barrel and bring it to legal length. Gemtech's precision mounting shim kit is included to make mounting the brake simple.

MSRP: $150.
