The April issue of Shooting Illustrated, on newsstands now, boasts 17 pages of new firearms covering more than 75 offerings. From ArmaLite to Zenith Firearms, if it's a new handgun, rifle or shotgun introduced in 2015, chances are we've got it covered.

We've detailed new products from industry stalwarts as well as brand-new companies in this expansive gun guide. Each new firearm is highlighted for its innovations as well as stand-out features. Vital specifications, contact information and MSRP are included for all new firearms to enhance your pre-acquisition intelligence. Shooting Illustrated's gun guide will help streamline your search for the latest and greatest, as well as provide much fodder for wish lists and gift suggestions.

While our biggest focus is on what's new in 2015, we also unveil our picks for the best of the best from 2014. The Golden Bullseye Award is given to the guns and gear that stood out from the crowd, showcasing the most innovative, practical and affordable products introduced in the previous year.

Speaking of innovative and affordable, DPMS' GII Recon rifle certainly lives up to that description. The Recon is a tactical, medium-bore rifle that comes with a host of practical enhancements that make it ideal for a wide variety of uses. It's also offered at an MSRP closer to those commanded by rifles chambered in 5.56 NATO.

The Recon handles targets at long range easily, but if you're practicing with your concealed-carry handgun, you're most likely working at close distance. Twenty-one feet is generally considered the minimum distance at which we can successfully draw from concealment and effectively stop an attack without suffering injury, and many drills have been devised to maximize our chances of success. One such drill is presented in our April issue, along with a target designed to test even the most experienced defensive shooter.
