New from Trijicon are HD Night Sights available for a wide variety of handgun platforms. Featuring a metal body, tritium-phosphor lamps, protective aluminum cylinders and a "U" notch rear sight, the latest iteration of the night sight from Trijicon offers daytime advantages as well. Also available is a high-contrast yellow or orange front post to assist in rapid target acquisition during daylight hours.

A set of sights for the SIG Sauer P226 arrived here at HQ not all that long ago, and I'm excited about getting them on my P226 and trying them out on the range. I really like the addition of the high-visibility paint around the front sight, as the tritium lamps work great when light levels are low, but during daylight hours nothing really stands out. The bright yellow dot around the tritium lamp helps the front sight stand out for instant target alignment in bright sunlight or full illumination.

There are a couple of other interesting features about these new sights. The rear sight has a straight front-facing edge that can be hooked on a belt or other flat surface for assistance in charging the pistol with one hand, an important feature should injury or preoccupation prevent the use of both hands. The front sight is treated with photoluminescent paint to assist in intermediate lighting conditions, such as dusk or in a room with scant lighting. It's little touches like these that add up to a big plus when adding these sights to a defensive firearm.
