As a follow up to last week's CCI Velocitor test from a 2.4-inch barrel, here is a look at the difference twice as much barrel length can make. Fired form a Kimber Rimfire Target Conversion Kit for a 1911, the Velocitor load generated an additional 228 fps. That's a 27-percent increase—enough of an increase to make the bullet start to expand. The result was 12 inches of total penetration and bullet expansion to .30 caliber. This is not stellar defensive handgun ammunition performance by any means, but is a definite improvement over this load's performance from a very short barrel.
