Cartridges loaded with middleweight bullets, like the 165-grain .40-caliber options, are an attempt to balance the deep penetration of heavy bullets and the violent wounding of the fast moving, light-for-caliber bullets. That's exactly what Remington's 165-grain .40 S&W Golden Saber load does. Penetration is midway between what you will see with most 155- and a 180-grain bullets and so is expansion. If you cannot make up your mind, compromise and select a middleweight.
