The Virginia State Police recently adopted the pump-action Benelli SuperNova as its new standard-issue patrol shotgun. Training on the new guns began earlier this year, and the Remington 870 Police Magnums currently in use will be phased out sometime during the fall of 2019.

The agency has also officially selected the SIG Sauer P320 pistol as its official duty sidearm. With three bureaus and more than 2,100 sworn officers, it provides service to the public and other law-enforcement and criminal-justice departments throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“The SuperNova offers configurations that meet the needs of departments, plus a proven track record of reliability making it a popular choice with departments of all sizes nationwide,” said Benelli USA Law Enforcement Sales Manager Jeff Sterner. “To be deployed throughout the entire department of this size speaks volumes about the shotgun and we are proud to help play a role in the future success of the Virginia State Police.”

“We are proud to earn the confidence of the Virginia State Police through their selection of the SIG Sauer P320 as their official duty pistol,” said Tom Jankiewicz, executive vice president, Law Enforcement Sales, SIG Sauer. “Due to the modularity of the P320, the Virginia State Police now have the ability to easily customize their standard-issue firearm for grip preference, without ever compromising the superior SIG Sauer accuracy, reliability and safety features they have come to rely on.”

The Virginia State Police will begin instruction and training on its SIG Sauer P320 pistols and officially place them into service sometime in 2019.

The P320 has gained favor with law enforcement agencies since the early 2017 announcement that it won the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System contract, with agencies in Florida, Arkansas and North Dakota among the latest to go with the pistol.
