PolyOne, a leader in the advanced polymer technology that creates many of the components on firearms and accessories shooters rely on, has acquired the color masterbatch businesses of Clariant and Clariant Chemicals India. Effectively immediately, PolyOne is now known as Avient.

The company is already well-known throughout the firearms manufacturing sector as an original equipment supplier of advanced engineered polymer formulations, including structurally reinforced polymers, long-fiber reinforced polymers, metal replacement engineered formulations and pre-colored materials and formulation for dye sublimation. Firearm products featuring Avient technology include firearm stocks, frames, receivers, magazine, recoil pads and grips. Archery components include bow risers, limbs, stabilizers and assorted accessories.

The company’s Clariant recent acquisition improves Avient’s already well-established ability to provide product that helps companies to, “…make the world more colorful while enhancing your product and process performance. Our custom color and additive concentrates are available in solid and liquid form,” according to its website.

“Under this new brand,” said Robert M. Patterson, Chairman, president and chief executive officer of Avient, “we bring two global leaders together to create a specialty company focused on sustainable solutions for our customers, being a great place to work for our associates, and creating value for all stakeholders.”

In 2016 PolyOne—in a joint research effort with HiViz—identified a new polymer compound that provided recoil reduction similar to the more traditional soft and rubbery mixtures, yet provide improved ability to survive through years of field abuse. The result was a new GLS thermoplastic polymer.

Avient Corporation is headquartered in Avon Lake, OH. It provides specialized and sustainable material solutions and in 2019 had total revenues of $2.9 billion. The company employs approximately 9,100 associates and is certified ACC Responsible Care and a founding member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste.
