Florida’s Miami-Dade Police Department recently awarded Speer contracts for 9 mm and .223 Rem. ammunition. Loads selected, respectively, are Speer Law Enforcement 124 grain +P Gold Dot and 75-grain Speer Gold Dot. Both will be issued to officers who protect and serve the roughly 2.4 million people who live in an area that encompasses 2,400 square miles.

“Miami-Dade is the eighth largest police department in the United States with approximately 3,500 officers,” said Steven Jenkins, Speer senior law enforcement sales specialist. “We are extremely proud of this important contract award. It validates the high level of trust that our nation’s law enforcement agencies have with our extremely reliable and innovative products.”

The New York City Police Department—the largest law enforcement agency in the United States—also selected Speer’s 124-Grain +P Gold Dot 9 mm load for duty in April. The company’s relationship with the 36,000 officers working in the Big Apple began in 2001. “We are proud of this contract win, and we are excited to have the opportunity to continue to work with the NYPD,” Speer Senior Director of Law Enforcement Ammunition Sales Hal Price said when announcing the contract. Several million cartridges are expected to be delivered over the course of the five-year agreement.

Designed to deliver the high performance today’s law enforcement officers demand, each Speer LE Gold Dot bullet is individually engineered to provide shot-to-shot uniformity and ensure optimum performance when fired through a variety of barriers. The result is a cartridge that provides officers the ultimate defense in lethal force confrontations.

News of the bullet’s performance hasn’t escaped the notice of departments abroad, either. French National Police selected Speer’s124-grain Gold Dot 9 mm load in 2018 and did so again when that agreement expired. In the latest contract—announced in February—the 150,000-officer agency will receive roughly 20 million of the cartridges over the next four years.
