With the increasing price and decreasing availability of ammunition in recent years, it's a savvy idea to have alternative plans for practicing.

The SureStrike Laser Cartridge Ultimate LE Edition from LaserAmmo is a training aid designed to work with a large variety of firearms and calibers. There are inserts for .40 S&W and .45 ACP as well as the standard 9 mm; and a .223 Rem. insert is also included.

The system is designed with safety in mind, too. There is a "safety cap" which must be in place for the unit to operate which extends beyond the edge of the barrel—no wondering if the unit is still inside or, more importantly, forgetting that the laser unit is inside when trying to chamber a live round.

MSRP: $199; includes six targets specially designed for use with the Laser Cartridge system.
