Toro! Toro! Toro!

In October of 2022, Taurus asked its customers what they wanted to the company to produce, once it had rolled out the 856 Executive Grade revolver. The answer they received was swift and unanimous: Their customers wanted a small frame revolver that was built for a red dot optic.

Taurus listened, and is now rolling out two new optics ready, small frame revolvers, the Taurus 856 T.O.R.O. and the Taurus 605 T.O.R.O. The 856 is a six-shot revolver chambered in .38 Spl., while the 605 has five chambers and uses .357 Mag. Rounds.

Both revolvers are milled at the factory to accept the optics plate designed specifically for this application. The plate itself accepts compact red dots designed for the Holosun K footprint, allowing you to use electronic sights such as the Holosun EPS Carry on your wheelgun.

The advantages to a red dot on a revolver are significant. Obviously, red dot sights are easier for many people to shoot. Additionally, a red dot can be zeroed to a specific grain weight or type of ammo, which wasn’t an option with a traditional fixed sight revolver. Both the 856 and 605 T.O.R.O. are based on the popular Defender series of revolvers. These firearms feature all steel construction, three-inch barrels and have a replaceable front sight, with a double-action/single-action trigger that provides a smooth but fast pull in double action for serious defensive shooting.

New Pistol Suppressors for 2025

We hear you (pun intended)! This year, we are reporting manufacturer’s sound-reduction rating where available. Now, not every manufacturer makes that information publicly available, so you’ll see a fair number of “N/As” where no decibel-reduction numbers were provided, but rest assured that, despite what you might think, the noise-reduction rating is one of the least important factors when choosing a new suppressor (more on that in a future article).
