Taurus 608 Competition

Taurus USA recently unveiled its next high-profile revolver product, the new competition-focused Taurus 608 Competition. This new revolver is an 8-shot .357 Magnum built on a large frame and outfitted with fiber optic sights, making it ready for various shooting disciplines such as USPSA Revolver Division, Steel Challenge Iron Sighted Revolver or ICORE.

Out of the box, the new Taurus 608 Competition includes modern competition target forms from VZ Grips, a high-visibility, green-fiber-optic sight, an adjustable rear sight and a special worked-over cylinder and trigger. The trigger mechanism is end-user adjustable without any tools in order to allow the competitor to tune the revolver to their shooting rhythm, something crucial for high-level competitors, especially those competing in revolver divisions who are working double-action trigger pulls the entire time. In addition to this, the Taurus 608 Competition is also engineered with a cylinder optimized for competition with an aggressive reduction in weight. The charge holes are properly reinforced with enough material to maintain safe chamber pressures, but material is machined off the other areas for lower weight. This removes about .25 pound from the weight of the cylinder, and as result improves the double action trigger pull because the shooter’s finger has to physically “move” less weight. The Taurus 608 Competition’s cylinders are also cut for moon clips, which are a necessity to seriously compete in any of the revolver categories of action pistol shooting sports. On top off all this, the charge holes themselves are individually chamfered to make loading smoother under the pressure of the time clock.

The Taurus 608 Competition’s action is the same tried and true system found on all Taurus double action revolvers and uses a transfer bar safety. Its 6-inch barrel is rifled with a traditional 1:16.5-inch twist and has a full-length underlug for balance and to help anchor the muzzle during shooting.
