Springfield Armory announced the expansion of its popular M1A rifle lineup to include new models chambered in the hot 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge, purpose-built for long-range performance.

“Having a 6.5 Creedmoor caliber in the M1A lineup gives long-range shooters more choices with the precision and accuracy they require,” Springfield Armory CEO Dennis Reese said. “They can choose the round they prefer, and take advantage of the legendary accuracy of the M1A platform to make the most of their shooting prowess.”

Springfield Armory M1A Series rifles have long been used by hunters, precision shooters and even professionals in need of a semi-automatic precision-rifle platform that allows them to take accurate, repeatable shots at distance with a firearm that allows for quick follow-up shots. However, until 2018, the M1A rifle has only been available in the vaunted .308 Win., limiting the maximum effective range of the rifle.

The new Springfield Armory 6.5 Creedmoor M1A rifle models are constructed with a National-Match-grade stainless-steel barrel that measures 22 inches long. The barrel features a medium-weight profile and provides shooters with an extended sight radius for taking precision shots using iron sights. The barrel features a four-groove rifling with a 1:8-inch right-hand twist, and the muzzle is topped off with a brake that keeps shooters on target, round after round.

The rifle is equipped with a .062-inch wide front sight that's paired up with a match-grade .052-inch adjustable rear aperture. The sights are designed to allows precision shooters to make accurate shots at long distances using only the irons and can be adjusted for both windage and elevation. Windage adjustments can be made in 0.5-MOA increments, while elevation is adjustable in 1-MOA increments.

Other features of the Springfield Armory 6.5 Creedmoor M1A rifle include a two-stage National Match trigger that is factory-set at a crisp 4.5-5 pounds. The rifle can be had with a black composite stock or an adjustable stock that allows shooters to customize the fit and feel of their firearm. All M1A rifles ship with a 10-round magazine.

Spec-wise, the M1A measures 45-46.24 inches long and weighs in at 11.4 pounds without a magazine. The rifle is available with either a black or a flat dark earth precision adjustable stock. The suggested retail price on the new Springfield Armory M1A in 6.5 Creedmoor starts at $1,985.
