First Look: Springfield Armory Model 2020 Long-Action Rifles

Springfield Armory is adding new long-action versions of the Model 2020 Waypoint rifle to the Waypoint family. These long-action rifles are built to deliver the accuracy and performance expected from a custom-grade rifle and are manufactured in the United States.

“The release of the Model 2020 Waypoint marked a new era for modern bolt-action rifles from Springfield Armory,” said Steve Kramer, vice president of marketing for Springfield Armory. “Building on this tradition are these new long-action variants, bringing new levels of performance and power to hunters and shooters.”

Delivering an impressive .75-MOA accuracy guarantee, they are available in chamberings including 7mm Rem. Mag., 7mm PRC, .300 Win. Mag., 300 PRC, .270 Win. and .30-06 Sprg. MSRP for these rifles ranges from $2,173 to $2,670, depending on caliber and barrel length.

The heart of these rifles is a custom-grade Model 2020 action, that is designed to take advantage of the most advanced manufacturing methods in order to hold incredibly tight tolerances. The Cerakote-finished action also features an integral recoil lug and is machined from pre-hardened stainless steel with EDM cut raceways. The fluted bolt can be disassembled without tools and uses dual cocking cams.

Designed for the most demanding hunters and shooters, the Model 2020 Waypoint family strikes a balance between light weight and durability. This is combination is achieved by using a hand-painted, 100-percent carbon-fiber stock by AG Composites that is hand-laid and pillar-bedded for precision and repeatability. Available in both adjustable and standard configurations, the stock features QD mounts for easy carry with a sling, M-Lok slots for mounting bipods and accessories and is hand-painted in either the Ridgeline or Evergreen camouflage pattern.

The long-action rifles combine packable weight and rock-solid performance and are available with a freefloat carbon-fiber-sleeved barrel with subsurface fluting that reduces weight and provides cooling channels to promote cold-bore to warm-bore repeatability. In addition, the rifles are also offered with a traditional fluted stainless-steel barrel. A TriggerTech “Field” trigger, adjustable from 2.5 to 5 pounds, provides a crisp, clean break.
