SIG Sauer has just released another 10mm P320 variant. The new SIG Sauer X-Ten Comp is a 10mm carry pistol intended for protection against large and predatory animals in the field or backcountry and is built on the 10mm/.45 ACP XSeries compact grip module It also features a built in compensator that is part of the slide, located at the muzzle. The built in compensator also includes an expansion chamber and the gun’s barrel is a thicker than normal bull barrel–all features to help tame the recoil of the 10mm cartridge. The round was designed during the early 1980s as a collaboration between Norma of Sweden and Col. Jeff Cooper of Gunsite. It was intended to be the definitive combat pistol cartridge, but it was deemed too potent for general use. These days, this “magnum” pistol caliber is going through a renaissance and is finding a niche as a woodsman’s sidearm for protection against large and dangerous predators. Defensive ammunition can be hand in traditional bonded and expanding JHP rounds or deeper penetration solid projectiles with a typical weight range of 180 to 200 grains.

“The P320-XTen Comp answers the call of enthusiasts for a 10mm carry size handgun fully optimized for hunters, fishermen, and hikers. Beginning with the new carry size 10mm/45 ACP grip module, the P320- XTen is a smaller package for all-around easier backcountry carry,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President Commercial Sales, SIG Sauer, Inc. “Additionally, through the pairing of the ported slide and Bull Barrel, the P320- XTen Comp delivers a 20-percent recoil reduction and brings with it the exceptional accuracy and durability that are the hallmark of the P320 and XSeries pistols.”
