Palmetto State Armory (PSA) is introducing an update to its Jakl rifle, the model 2.0. The PSA Jakl 2.0 is a long-stroke, piston-driven modern sporting rifle. It combines features from the AK and AR-15 style rifle to form its own unique pattern. Notable features include the ability to fold the stock without any additional mounts or adapters—because it doesn’t rely on a buffer tube to cycle—as well as a side-mounted charging handle.

The new 2.0 version no longer comes fitted with a mil-spec AR lower receiver and is not compatible with one. To improve on the aesthetic design as well as some functionality updates, the lower is now its own proprietary design. The same goes for the new folding stock and pistol grip.

The new AXR stock is completely adjustable for length-of-pull and will fold to the left side and lock in place. PSA also plans on releasing a version with a pistol brace in the near future. The pistol grip is PSA’s own ergonomic design made specifically for the Jakl.

Through design and engineering of the platform itself, the Jakl now weighs less, is thinner and has fewer fasteners. This was accomplished through a new extrusion process for the receivers, which also makes the handguard shorter in height and easier to grip.

The bolt catch/release is now located on both sides and the charging handle is spring loaded to keep a more snag-free profile of the weapon. The charging handle slot has been moved rearward to be more ergonomic and to allow for shorter barrel configurations in the future. Speaking of the barrel, the barrel swap mechanism/process has been streamlined to make barrel swaps easier for the at-home builder.

The Jakl 2.0 will be available in 5.56 NATO and 300 BLK currently. Check out PSA’s website at palmettostatearmory.com for more information.
