Smith & Wesson Mountain gun

In collaboration with Lipsey’s, Smith & Wesson has launched two new ‘Mountain Gun’ revolver models, an N-frame Smith & Wesson Model 610 in 10mm and a K-frame Model 617 in .22 LR. This latest set of S&W and Lipsey’s Mountain Gun models join the existing .44 Mag. and .357 Mag. versions introduced earlier in 2025.

The Smith & Wesson Mountain Gun moniker originally applied to select classic big-bore, N-frame, magnum cartridge revolvers built with thinner contour barrels which reduced their overall weight, hence making them lighter and handier to carry either in the backcountry or “in the mountains.” The moniker stuck around, and in 2025, Lipsey’s and Smith & Wesson started introducing new models that remained true to the spirit of the original guns. However, neither company limited itself to only larger N-frame models. The 2025 Mountain Gun lineup also includes an L-frame Smith & Wesson Model 686 version, and with the latest release it also now includes a rimfire Model 617 K-frame variant.

A critical detail on all four 2025 Smith & Wesson Mountain Gun models is that their frames have no cylinder lock mechanism or hole, just like the S&W revolvers of yesteryear. All new Mountain Guns also include high-grade walnut Bear Hug stocks from Tyler Gun Works.

Smith & Wesson Model 610 Mountain Gun

The Smith & Wesson Model 610 Mountain gun is a six-shot 10mm revolver built on an N-frame. It features an all-stainless-steel construction, and its front sight has  a gold bead, just like the other Mountain Gun models. This revolver comes equipped with a field-handy 4.25-inch tapered barrel and weighs 40.2 ounces.

Smith & Wesson Model 617 Mountain Gun

As previously mentioned, the new Model 617 Mountain gun is a .22 LR rimfire K-frame revolver that’s based on the classic Model 17 revolver. It weighs 36.1 ounces and also has the signature all stainless-steel construction.

Both new .22 LR Model 617 and 10mm Model 610 Mountain Gun revolvers retail for $1,199. To learn more about these revolvers, the other Smith & Wesson/Lipsey’s Mountain Gun models or other revolvers offered by Smith & Wesson, visit smith-wesson.com.
