Girsan CMX Witness 2311 pistol

Girsan, through EAA, has introduced a new variant of its Witness 2311 pistol, the new Girsan CMX Witness 2311. The new CMX Witness 2311’s main feature (or lack thereof) is its omission of a grip safety. Instead, this double-stack 1911’s grip module is smooth. In addition, Girsan added an “Auto Firing Pin Block Safety” internally in order to take the missing grip safety into account.

When it comes to competition pistols, some shooters opt to disable the grip safety on their discipline-specific pistols because it can get in the way of their specific two-handed “high up” firing grips. Likewise, a less-than-ideal draw might mean that the safety isn’t depressed correctly, which could cost a competitor valuable seconds in a match. Many shooters will pin or tape down grip safeties. On the other hand, many manufacturers of high-performance double-stack 1911 parts also sell double-stack grip modules without a grip safety as well.

The Girsan CMX Witness 2311 does the same thing, but with a more accessible overall price, since its MSRP is slightly less than $1,000. CMX grip modules are manufactured from polymer and accept 17-round, 2011-pattern 9 mm magazines. The frame itself includes a full-length Picatinny dustcover section and sits flush with the muzzle.

Aside from its lack of grip safety and its inclusion of the auto-firing-pin-block safety, the Girsan CMX Witness 2311 is outfitted with a commander-length slide and a corresponding 4.25 inch 9 mm bull barrel. The CMX Witness 2311 slide is factory-cut and optics-ready for any red-dot sight that uses the Shield Sights RMSc optics-footprint pattern. It does include a rear sight which sits on a dovetail that also serves as the pistol’s standard optics cut cover. The slide also includes front and rear slide serrations. Front serrations also double as slide lightening cuts.
