Expanding its line of butterfly knives available to consumers, Bear & Son Cutlery added the all-new SS14 Butterfly Knife to its lineup, offering an option made entirely from corrosion-resistant stainless steel. The new knife joins more than 20 other butterfly-style knives in the company's lineup.

At the heart of the SS14 knife is a blade crafted from chromium 440 stainless steel, having a high-carbon content and hardened to provide enhanced strength and longer life off a sharpened edge. The hollow-ground blade features a clip-point tip and a matte bead finish. Surrounding the blade are a pair of folding handles also machined from stainless steel and polished to a high-gloss finish designed to complement the matte blade finish.

In terms of performance, the handles used on the Bear & Son Cutlery SS14 Butterfly Knife are skeletonized and weighted correctly to allow for flipping techniques popular with aficionados of butterfly-style knives. To keep the knife handles locked into place, a pivoting bar is located on the butt end of the handles and allows the handles to be secured during use. To store the knife, simply pivot the bar until it is in-line with the handle, close each handle around the blade, and lock the bar into the handle end once the blade is fully enclosed.

Constructed with a blade length of 3.625 inches, the overall length of the knife, when fully deployed, is 9.25 inches. When closed, the knife measures only 5 inches in overall length. Thanks to the skeletonized handles, the overall weight of the tool is a mere 5 ounces, enabling it to be carried easily as a personal-defense or pocketable utility tool.

Butterfly knives, also called balisongs, are a traditional blade design derived from the Philippines. The design of the knife is purpose-built to allow for quick one-handed opening, enabling trained practitioners to deploy the blade quickly in personal-defense scenarios. Butterfly knives are restricted in several states and localities in the USA, so check state and local laws before carrying.

The suggested retail price on the Bear & Son Cutlery SS14 Butterfly Knife is $84.99.
