If you were tasked to assemble the ideal riflescope for the modern sporting rifle—AR-15—what features should be included and why? This question could be answered in several ways, but maybe the easiest approach is to just describe the new EOTech Vudu 1-8X24 SFP riflescope. For starters it has an ideal power range of 1X to 8X, which will allow you to engage targets as close as your muzzle, but out to 500 to 600 yards with ease. Not only does this range of magnification perfectly match with the distance most shooters are using MSRs for, with the power throw lever that is included with each scope, you can switch between these magnifications swiftly.

The EOTech Vudu 1-8x24 also has a slim, trim design. The turrets are capped and of a low profile and the main scope tube is constructed from a single piece of T-6 aircraft-grade aluminum. For focusing, there is a quick adjustment eyepiece with a knurled edge for easy adjustment and the magnification ring has deep grooves in case you do not want to go with the throw lever. This by the way makes the scope also appealing to bolt guns because there is not a raised magnification adjustment ring to interfere with the bolt handle.

Another feature that will mass appeal is its daylight visible illuminated ballistic drop correction reticle. It is positioned in the second-focal-plane, which means its just as visible on 1X as it is on 8X, and is is controlled by a single CR2032 battery that will delver approximately 500 hours of run time when set on the middle brightness setting. For those who are mathematically challenged, that means the reticle will stay on for 20 continuous days! The Vudu 1-8x24 is short and not too heavy and seems to be just about the perfect companion to just about any MSR, whether you are working up close and personal, trying to reach out to distance or doing both like a lot of 3-gun competitors do.
