The engineers at SIG Sauer had their directive from a military project: produce a round that ran fast and hit hard while shaving off weight. The end result was a composite cartridge consisting of a stainless steel case head, traditional brass body and aluminum locking washer, all capped with a 6.8 mm bullet. It all came about as a result of the Next Generation Squad Weapon contract competition, and resulted in a round that SIG Sauer felt had potential on the civilian market as well. And, thus, the .277 SIG Fury round was born.

We had a chance to hear more about the new .277 SIG Fury at SIG Sauer's media day ahead of SHOT Show 2020. We managed to corral Brad Criner, SIG's Ammunition director, for a brief chat about this exciting new round. There's some interesting specs and capabilities of this new round, and we look forward to testing once sufficient quantities are available.
