Proving that old dogs can learn new tricks, Arsenal Inc. launched the AK-20 at the 2020 SHOT Show in Las Vegas as a modern take on the classic AK-47 design. Chambered in 7.62x39 mm, the AK-20 will be available in pistol, rifle and SBR configurations.

Exceptionally well suited for suppression, the AK-20 features an externally adjustable gas block with three settings for standard use, suppressed or subsonic, and completely closed. Likewise, the AK-20 features a free-floated handguard with upper and lower sections. The upper part of the handguard is built with a Picatinny top rail, while both upper and lower connect via a barrel nut and do not make contact with the barrel.

Conveniently, the AK-20 gas block can be rotated by hand or with a cartridge thanks to a hole cut in its center. The rifle variant utilizes an AR-15-style buffer tube adapter, while the receiver includes sling swivel mounts on both sides of the firearm. According to Arsenal Inc., a limited run of custom shop versions of the AK-20 will be available first, with production guns expected later in the year. The expected MSRP for the initial release of the custom AK-20 will start at $1,999.

The original launch of the AK-20 includes the 7.62x39 mm, while variants in. 5.56 NATO will eventually be added. For those looking to get off the beaten path, Arsenal Inc. will also make the AK-20 available in .50 Beowulf.
