As SHOT Show 2020 quickly approaches, Springfield Armory has added rugged 1911 pistol designated the Ronin Operator 1911 to the company’s new-for-2020 offerings. This new 1911 joins the brand-new line of XD-M Elite pistols released earlier this month, and will be joined by even more offerings as SHOT Show draws nearer (check back here on Shooting Illustrated for more information).

The Ronin Operator 1911 is a result of thoroughly modern precision manufacturing and configured as a full-size 5-inch gun available in 9 mm and .45 ACP variants. Sporting a two-tone finish, with a stainless steel forged frame and a forged slide of carbon steel, it pairs classic 1911 features with modern touches. Flats of both the slide and frame are polished, with a matte finish applied to the rest of the pistol. Additionally, the slide features a hot-salt bluing treatment bringing out the lustre of the steel.

Despite its classic aesthetic, everything present on modern 1911s is included. Such features consist of a beavertail grip safety with “memory bump” for solid engagement, a fiber-optic front/tactical rack white-dot rear sight system, as well as an extended safety lever. Rounding out the features are a pair of Crossed Cannon premium laminate wood grips, stainless steel checkered flat mainspring housing, Springfield Armory 2nd Generation Speed Trigger, forward slide serrations and a basepad-equipped magazine (9+1 capacity in the 9 mm model and 8+1 in the .45 ACP).
