The Zev O.Z-9, a first for the company known for customizing Glock handguns, was built entirely from the ground up in its initial full-size configuration, and in late 2019 is now available in a compact model. All the unique features that made the full-size O.Z-9 stand out in the marketplace, particularly in terms of the modular steel chassis sitting inside the grip frame, are found in the compact O.Z-9C. However, this downsized model now provides a CCW-ready model. The slimmed-down PRO magwell enhances grip comfort while minimizing printing while carrying concealed.

One of the driving elements in the design of the original O.Z-9, reviewed here by Shooting Illustrated's Handguns editor, was to create a balanced pistol platform, which provides more control with reduced felt recoil and reduced muzzle rise. This allows shooters to fire faster, more accurate follow-up shots. However, the reduced size of many compact variants of full-size handguns compromise on balance, but the O.Z-9C continues to provide this essential element to owners.

At the heart of the O.Z-9 is the company's steel receiver, a patent-pending design. This solid-steel frame runs the length of the entire pistol, allowing the locking block to be fully integrated. The extended rails in the steel receiver help provide more than double the surface area of contact to the slide. Additional benefits include channels that clear out debris while also acting as lubricating reservoirs for high friction areas.

Having a singular component for the slide to travel along minimizes vibration and recoil energy by dispersing it along the receiver through the custom grip. A single take-down pinlocated at the front of the trigger guard locks the removable grip to the steel receiver.

The trigger is housed in the steel receiver, which gives O.Z-9 owners the opportunity to upgrade the steel receiver with different grip modules in the future. The Zev team worked to ensure that the grips found on these guns have steeper angles, which allows the gun to point more naturally.

The O.Z-9 is compatible with Zev components and accepts Glock-pattern mags. Future options will include different grip sizes, color and texture options. The suggested retail price on the Zev O.Z-9 Compact is $1,679. For more information on the new O.Z-9C, visit the company's website at zevtechnologies.com.
