In an effort to bring a more-affordable precision-rifle chassis to the market, MDT developed its Oryx chassis, which features all of the benefits consumers demand in a bolt-on chassis without the added cost associated with many of today's high-end chassis designs. In 2019, MDT teamed up with Legacy Sports International to pair its Oryx chassis with the Howa Model 1500 rifle action, providing consumers with a complete precision platform at a price they can afford.

The new Legacy Sports Howa Oryx chassis rifle is available in short, long and "Mini Action" lengths, giving shooters a range of caliber and barrel-length options. The chassis itself provides users with the ability to adjust the stock for a custom fit, thanks to a customizable length-of-pull and comb height. Inside the Oryx stock is a full-length, monolithic chassis design that fully supports the action while also free-floating the barrel for enhanced accuracy. In addition, the rifle also comes equipped with Howa's two-stage HACT trigger, which is set from the factory with a clean, crisp pull weight measuring 2.5-3 pounds.

The Howa Model 1500 action is built with a forged receiver featuring an integrated recoil lug for precise, repeatable bedding. The action is paired with a cold hammer-forged barrel and also features a single-piece, forged, two-lug bolt that can be stripped for maintenance and cleaning without the need for tools. The system is outfitted with a Sako/M16-style extractor, as well as an M16-style plunger ejector. Other features found on the Legacy Sports Howa Oryx chassis rifle includes the ability to attach M-Lok rails and direct-fit accessories to the fore-end, as well as the ability to feed AICS-style magazines.

Short-action options in the Legacy Sports Howa Oryx chassis-rifle lineup include 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Win., each available in either a 20-, 24- or 26-inch barrel. A long-action option in .300 Win. Mag. is available, as well as several of Howa's unique Mini Action designs in .223 Rem., 7.62x39 mm and 6.5 Grendel, each outfitted with a 20-inch heavy barrel. A 16.25-inch option in 300 BLK is also in the lineup. Each rifle ships with a 10-round magazine, and the suggested retail price on the guns starts at $1,059.
